Jordan's insurance market registered double-digit growth in the first quarter of year, driven by the medical insurance branch, while motor insurance continued to account for the largest share of the market's total paid claims.
In 1Q2026, GWP for the insurance market in Jordan reached JOD297m ($418m), registering a13.5% growth over the corresponding quarter in 2025, according to figures published by the Central Bank of Jordan. Claims for the same period increased by 11% year on year to JOD146m from JOD132m.
Medical insurance accounted for 46% of the market GWP, making it the largest line of business in 1Q2026. Its premiums reached JOD135m, registering a 17% increase compared with 1Q2025, the fastest growth rate across all insurance branches.
Motor insurance contributed 23% of the total GWP in 1Q2026, with premiums reaching JOD68m, up from JOD61m in the first quarter of the previous year, representing an 11% increase.
Life insurance was the market’s third largest line of business in 1Q2026 with 17% share of GWP, following medical and motor insurance. Its premiums increased by 16% to JOD50.2m, up from JOD43.2m in the first quarter of the previous year.

Total paid claims for the market reached JOD146m in 1Q2026, recording an 11% y-o-y growth, with all lines of business registering growth in paid claims.
Motor insurance paid claims remained stable at JOD66.5m in 1Q2026, registering an increase of less than 1% over the corresponding quarter in 2025. Notably, motor paid claims almost matched GWP for the branch, representing the largest share of nearly 46% of the market’s total paid claims.
Medical insurance paid claims increased at a slower pace than premiums in 1Q2026, standing at JOD58m and accounting for 38% of the market’s total paid, a 15% increase compared with the corresponding quarter in 2025.
