The insurance market in Tunisia registered double-digit growth in the first half of the year, supported by a notable increase in life insurance business, which was the fastest-growing branch of business.
Insurance premiums generated by direct insurers reached TND2.25bn ($780.5m) in the first half of 2025, up from TND2bn in the corresponding half of the previous year, an increase of 11.4%, according to the latest figures released by the sector’s regulatory authority, the General Insurance Committee (CGA). Paid claims in the first half of the year grew by 11.4% as well to TND1bn, up from TND931m in 1H2024.
Life insurance was the fastest-growing line of business in the first half of the year, with premiums reaching TND651m, a 21% increase over the first half of 2024. Life insurance operations accounted for almost one-third (29%) of the market GWP in 1H2025.
Non-life insurance business grew by almost 8% to TND1.6bn in 1H2025 from TND1.5bn in 1H2024, controlling over 71% of the market operations.
Motor insurance premiums reached TND861.5m in the first half of 2025, recording an increase of 7.4% and accounting for around 38% of the total market’s premium income, making it the largest line of business.
Health insurance business grew by 15% to TND341m in 1H2025 from TND310m in 1H2024. Fire insurance was the third largest branch with premium income of TND182m from TND165m.
The CGA results indicated that the premium income of the only national reinsurer Tunis Re reached TND123.3m in 1H2025 versus TND118.6m in the corresponding period of the past year.
