Mr Alaa El-Zoheiry, Chairman of the Insurers Federation of Egypt (IFE), has been elected President of the African Insurance Organisation (AIO) for the 2026-2027 term during the opening of the organisation's 52nd Annual Conference and General Assembly in Cairo. Egypt succeeds Ethiopia in leading the continental body.
Mr El-Zoheiry has outlined an ambitious agenda focused on expanding insurance inclusion, accelerating digital transformation, empowering youth and women, and strengthening institutional capacity across Africa’s insurance sector.
He also pledged to deepen cooperation among African insurance markets, expand AIO membership, enhance the organisation’s data and research capabilities, and promote innovation through stronger engagement with InsurTech and FinTech companies, including the launch of an annual African InsurTech hackathon.
In his remarks, Mr El-Zoheiry said that Egypt’s assumption of the AIO presidency reflects the growing influence of the country’s insurance sector and its commitment to advancing regional cooperation and sustainable growth within Africa’s insurance industry.
