The travel insurance market in the UAE has witnessed a notable surge in demand, driven by the rapid and unpredictable changes in the global aviation and travel sectors.
Experts told the newspaper Al Khaleej that the increased frequency of flight cancellations and delays, in addition to health risks and weather disruptions, has reinforced the need for travel insurance that provides comprehensive protection for travellers in the event of emergencies.
They explained that the policy costs between AED100 ($27.23) and AED500 per month and covers a wide range of risks, such as flight cancellations, lost luggage, medical emergencies, accidents, and air disasters.
Travel agencies report that many companies now automatically bundle insurance into travel packages, especially for destinations where it is a mandatory entry requirement.
Mr Mark Pashayani, COO of Buy Any Insurance, said, “About 70% of travel insurance sales are focussed on destinations that require insurance as a requirement for entry, with demand varying depending on the season, the nature of the trip, and even the traveller's nationality. “
He added that inquiries into travel insurance have risen by approximately 20% in 2025 compared to the previous year, indicating a growing awareness of its importance.
Mr Saif Al Madani, director of Sales and Marketing at Al Arif Travel, said, "There is a noticeable trend among travellers to purchase insurance. This shift is attributed to a growing awareness of potential risks, such as medical emergencies, travel disruptions, or baggage issues that can occur. However, despite this increased awareness, it remains uneven among travellers. Frequent travellers or those heading to long-distance destinations recognise its benefits, while others see it as simply an additional cost."
In addition, Mr Al-Madani said that in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, airlines and hotels have adopted stricter cancellation and refund policies, making comprehensive insurance crucial for travellers, especially in the event of an emergency.
Mr Mahmoud Salloum, CFO of Zajil Tourism, said that business people as well as families represent the segment most likely to purchase insurance.
