Tunisia:Direct insurers' net premiums grow by nearly 10% in 1H2024

Direct insurance companies in Tunisia recorded a solid increase in their turnover at the end of the first half of 2024, according to figures published by the General Insurance Committee (CGA).

Direct insurers in Tunisia chalked up net premiums of TND2,030m ($668m) in 1H2024, 9.8% higher than the TND1,848m posted for 1H2023. Non-life insurance accounted for 75% of the total.

In addition, motor insurance generated a turnover of TND818.6m in the first six months of this year, rising by 7.9% year on year. Group health insurance recorded a 9.8% increase in turnover to TND310.3m, while fire insurance turnover rose by 3.1% to TND165.1m.

Compensation paid by direct insurance companies reached TND900.7m in 1H2024, 3.8% higher than the TND867.9m settled in 1H2023. Non-life insurance accounted for TND716.9m or 80% of this total.

The inflation rate in Tunisia in the first six months of this year hovered around 7%.
