The agricultural insurance branch in Algeria recorded revenue of DZD1.89bn ($14m), jumping by 42.2% compared to the corresponding half in 2025, according to data from the National Insurance Council (CNA).
The strong rise in agricultural insurance, fuelled by productive investments and major agricultural and agri-food projects, contributed to the 3% growth in the overall Algerian insurance sector, where revenue reached DZD102.8bn in the first half of 2026.
Agricultural insurance revenue grew at the fastest pace among the major non-life insurance branches, which include motor, fire and accidents, transport and credit.
The CNA said in an economic briefing on the national insurance market that the performance of agricultural insurance business reflects the continuation of commercial development of the branch, resulting in the signing of new contracts with individuals and professionals. Furthermore, the branch is supported by agricultural financing mechanisms, notably credit schemes for farmers and the mandatory or encouraged subscription to certain crop insurance policies.
1H2026 growth is seen in all sub-branches of agricultural insurance, with a particularly notable contribution from crop production insurance, which recorded a turnover of DZD604.1m, up by 54.3% year on year.

The sub-branches—"operating irrigation network", "vegetable crop multi-risk", "fruit tree multi-risk" and "potato multi-risk"—although representing modest shares, contributed positively to this result with a combined revenue of DZD63.3m.
Furthermore, growth was bolstered by the introduction of a dedicated credit facility for cereal growers to finance seed acquisitions, tied to mandatory crop insurance. This initiative drove higher engagement among cereal producers—particularly in the country's western and central regions—against the backdrop of recent weather improvements in those areas.
The livestock sub-branch accounted for 30.7% of the agricultural insurance branch's combined revenue, with an increase of 24.3% in revenue that reached DZD579.3m in 1H2026. This was mainly driven by the livestock multi-risk products.
Overall, the livestock insurance sub-branch’s revenue was due to new business during the first quarter of 2026. However, this momentum was limited by the drop in subscriptions and the non-renewal of certain contracts signed in 2025 by young investors benefiting from the programmes of the National Agency for Support and Development of Entrepreneurship.
