Tunisia:Insurance market sees 11.4% jump in topline performance in 2025

Insurance companies in Tunisia reported double-digit growth in 2025, on the back of strong performance in the life insurance segment, which currently accounts for over one third of the total market.

Tunisian insurers achieved GWP of TND4.3bn ($1.48bn) in 2025 against TND3.8bn in the previous year, achieving 11.4% increase according to recent figures released by the General Insurance Committee (CGA). Non-life insurance businesses controlled nearly 69% of the market operations in 2025 as they amounted to TND2.9bn, while life insurance premiums’ share was about 31%.

The market’s total paid claims for the same period increased by 6.1% to TND2.4bn compared with TND2.2bn. Around 75% of paid claims came from the non-life branches of business.

Non-life sector dominated by motor

Motor insurance business remained the largest line of business with premiums reaching TND1.6bn in 2025, up from TND1.5bn in 2024, reporting a growth rate of 7.4% and accounting for 38.3% of the market’s total GWP (or 58% of non-life premiums). Motor insurance has also accounted for the largest share (46.3%) of the market’s total paid claims. Motor paid claims reached TND1.01bn, up from TND909m in 2024, registering a 20% hike, the highest amongst all branches of business.

The second largest non-life insurance line in 2025 was group health insurance business with a 15.2% market share. Its premiums reached TND647m versus TND581m in 2024, registering an over 11% growth rate. In 2025, fire and transport branches accounted for 6% and 3% of the market premium income, respectively.

Life insurance business expands steadily

Life insurance premiums grew by 16.4% in 2025, reaching TND1.4bn against TND1.1bn in the preceding year. Life insurance business has been growing steadily in recent years. Its share of the market's total GWP expanded to 31.4% in 2025 compared with 31.1% in 2024 and 24% in 2020.

Life insurance paid claims dropped by 6% to TND527m in 2025 from TND562m in the previous year, accounting for 22% of the market’s total paid claims.
