ME conflict:GIG Gulf breaks away from exclusions, offering war cover add-ons for UAE vehicles

| 22 Jul 2026

GIG Gulf has joined a small number of insurers that have begun to offer some form of war risk cover.

In a statement yesterday, GIG Gulf announced that war cover is now available as an add-on for comprehensive personal motor policies and select commercial fleet policies in the UAE.

Instead of offering a single, costly add-on, GIG Gulf customers can choose from three levels of cover to suit their needs and budget.

GIG Gulf says that the commercial fleet offering is a meaningful step forward for businesses running vehicles in the UAE, as well as for logistics operators and corporate fleets who have had limited, often impractical options for this type of cover.

Mr Paul Adamson, GIG Gulf CEO, said, “Real commitment means being there for the moments that matter most to our customers. That's why we've added war cover to motor and fleet policies, giving people and businesses the peace of mind they deserve."

Eligibility for war cover is subject to underwriting assessment and applicable policy terms and conditions.

Previously, insurers excluded war-related damage in standard motor insurance policies.

GIG Gulf operates across the UAE, Oman, Bahrain and Qatar. It also owns a 50% stake in GIG Saudi.

GIG Gulf is part of the Gulf Insurance Group (GIG), a regional composite insurer with companies in Kuwait, Jordan, Bahrain, Egypt, Turkey, Algeria, Qatar, Oman, Iraq, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.
