Kenya:Insurers say 'No" to proposed single channel for private-public dialogue

| 21 Jan 2026

The Association of Kenya Insurers (AKI) has aired concerns over the government's plan to set up a single channel for dialogue between public institutions and the private sector.

The Public Sector–Private Sector Engagement Bill, 2025, proposed by the Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry, seeks to establish the Business Council of Kenya (BCK) as the primary platform for structured discussions on taxation, regulation, trade, and investment facilitation, reported the news platform Eastleigh Voice.

While the government says BCK will improve dialogue between policymakers and businesses, insurers argue the arrangement could limit timely and specialised consultations.

A single, centralised channel for engagement is more likely to reduce interaction, weaken the quality of dialogue and undermine effective policy making,” AKI said, pointing to the diverse sectors in the economy.

Other organisations, including the FinTech Association of Kenya, have also voiced opposition to the proposal.
