Continental Reinsurance Group has announced appointments to both the group and to the Nigerian entity levels.
To Continental Reinsurance Group:
- Mr Lawrence Nazare as group managing director
- Mr Paul Kokoricha as chairman of the board and non-executive director
- Mr Steve Iwenjora as non-executive director
Mr Nazare’s transition follows the completion of his tenure as managing director/CEO of Continental Re, Nigeria, in December 2024. In his new role, Mr Nazare will oversee the Group’s pan-African operations and long-term strategic direction.
Mr Paul Kokoricha was formerly the chairman of Continental Re.
Mr Steve Iwenjora was formerly a non-executive director at Continental Re.
To Continental Re, Nigeria:
- Dr Fatai Kayode Lawal as managing Director/CEO
- Mrs Eno Atoyebi as non-executive director
- Mrs Funmilayo Omokhodion as non-executive director
- Mr Segun Adebanji as chairman of the board and non-executive director
Dr Lawal brings a wealth of experience. Prior to his new role, he worked with Universe Re, Refuge Insurance Company and Sterling Assurance Nigeria.
Dr Lawal holds a bachelor of science (honours) in insurance and a master of business administration from the University of Lagos and a doctorate in management in leadership and organisational management from the University of Phoenix, Arizona, US. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute of London and Nigeria (FCII, FIIN), and is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria and Chartered Institute of Directors.
Mrs Funmilayo Omokhodion has 36 years of experience, and is a Chartered Insurer. She is currently the regional director for West Africa, among other roles, at Africa Re. She holds a bachelor of art in English and linguistics and an executive master of business administration in insurance. She is also a member of the Council of the Africa Reinsurance Foundation.
Mrs Atoyebi has over 25 years of experience. She is a Chartered Financial Analyst and Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria. She is currently the managing director of ValuAlliance Asset Management and oversees strategy for two mutual funds. She also worked with Afrinvest and ExxonMobil.
Mr Adebanji is a Fellow of both the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria. Over his career, he has worked with UAC, Unilever, Nigerian Breweries and Heineken. He currently chairs Fidson Healthcare and Filmhouse Group.
