Tunisia:Insurance claims rise in 1H2026 as motor accidents and fires surge

| 10 Sep 2026

The number of claims lodged with insurance companies across all branches stood at 993,194 in the first half of this year, 4.1% higher than the 954,299 submitted in 1H2025, according to data from the General Insurance Committee (CGA).

The increase is attributed to a surge in traffic accidents and an increase in industrial and residential damage caused by fires.

The number of claims in the motor branch jumped by 18.8% year on year to 195,005 in the first six months of 2026, compared to 164,179 cases in the first half of 2025.

The number of claims for fire losses surged by 31.1%, from 3,037 in 1H2025 to 3,982 in 1H2026. Experts attribute this to the combination of extreme heatwaves and the lack of firefighting equipment in buildings.
