Egypt:Regulator to overhaul insurance product approvals to boost penetration rate

| 05 Jul 2026

The Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA) is set to update its regulatory framework for approving insurance products, and to conduct a comprehensive review the terms and models of insurance policies for all branches of business.

To ensure the updates will align with industry needs, FRA Chairman Dr Islam Azzam recently convened a meeting with the CEOs and management representatives of Egypt’s insurance companies, reinforcing the regulator's commitment to collaborative, feedback-driven decision-making, reported Al Mal News.

During the meeting, Dr Azzam emphasised that boosting insurance penetration in the Egyptian market hinges on continuous innovation and the rapid deployment of modern products that address evolving consumer needs. Diversifying product offerings and reaching untapped customer segments are critical steps toward expanding coverage, advancing financial inclusion, and driving sustained growth across the entire sector.

He also discussed with representatives of insurance companies their views and proposals regarding studies prepared by the Authority to accelerate product approval timelines. The authority seeks to strike a practical balance between enforcing robust regulatory compliance and giving insurance companies the flexibility they need to innovate effectively.
