ME conflict:Lebanese insurance sector says broader market continies to operate normally

The current geopolitical tensions in the Middle East are being closely monitored by the insurance industry across the region, says the Association of Lebanese Insurance Companies (ACAL).

The association told Middle East Insurance Review, “At present, the most immediate impact is observed in specific specialty lines such as marine, aviation, and political violence insurance, where heightened risk perceptions may lead to adjustments in coverage terms and pricing. These changes are largely driven by developments affecting regional logistics, shipping routes, and international trade flows.

However, the broader insurance market continues to operate normally. Insurers remain well-supported by international reinsurance markets, and the industry’s risk-management frameworks are designed precisely to address periods of volatility.”

ACAL added that while military confrontation inevitably introduce a degree of uncertainty, the insurance sector has historically demonstrated resilience thanks to prudent underwriting practices and strong reinsurance support.

It added, “From ACAL’s perspective, it is important to reassure policyholders and stakeholders that the Lebanese insurance sector remains committed to maintaining stability, honouring its obligations, and ensuring the continued availability of insurance protection.

Any potential adjustments in premiums would primarily depend on the evolution and duration of regional developments and would likely remain limited to specific high-risk segments rather than affecting the wider market.”
