Egypt:Regulator gives nod to change of name of insurance federation

| 04 Mar 2025

The Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA) has approved changing the name of the Egyptian Insurance Federation to 'Federation of Egyptian Insurance Companies'.

The approval was part of the Authority’s decision No. 49 of 2025, amending two articles of the federation’s bylaws, according to local media reports.

Article (1) of the bylaws stipulates, after its amendment, that a union of insurance and reinsurance companies (and cooperative insurance societies until their status is regularised) subject to the provisions of the Unified Insurance Law, regardless of the type of activity they practice, be established in Egypt. The association is non-profit and has an independent legal personality. It is considered as a private law person and its headquarters is in Greater Cairo.

Article (8) stipulates that the federation’s fiscal year begins on the first of January and ends on the last day of December each year.

The membership of the federation, which was established in Egypt in 1953, consists of all insurance companies operating in the Egyptian market. The membership currently comprises 39 insurance companies. The association aims to raise the standards of the insurance industry and professions associated with it and represent the interests of the sector.
