The Algerian Union of Insurance and Reinsurance Companies (UAR) plans to digitise the vehicle insurance certificate to allow policyholders to obtain it online, the UAR president, Mr Youcef Benmicia, has announced.
The move is expected to increase efficiency and transparency and improve services offered to policyholders.
Mr Benmicia says in a statement to the Algerian Press Service, "An ad-hoc committee is working on the development of the digital insurance certificate project, which is currently in the testing phase. Once this stage is completed, the project will be presented to the competent authorities for implementation.”
He stresses that this project represents a major step in the process of modernising the insurance sector in Algeria, "because it facilitates transactions for customers, reduces paper consumption and allows instant verification of the validity of insurance, thanks to interconnected databases between different insurance companies."
In addition to simplifying the subscription and renewal of motor insurance policies, the digital certificate helps to increase transparency and reduce the risks of falsification, adds Mr Benmicia.
The insurance sector is undergoing a digital transformation, helped by the launch in October 2022 of the inter-insurance company digital platform dedicated to the automobile sector (E-recours).
He outlines progress made by Algerian insurance companies in the digitalisation of their services, including online monitoring of insurance contracts, payment of premiums and submission of compensation claims, in addition to the adoption by some companies of the remote expertise system, in addition to other services aimed at facilitating access to insurance benefits.
