The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP) has announced a health insurance project for tourist visas.
Visitors can acquire a health insurance policy when they apply for their visas online through the ICP website or app.
“The health insurance project for tourist visas supports the tourism and health sectors in the country by organising and governing health insurance procedures for tourist visas, thus enhancing the country’s global competitiveness in residency and travel indicators,” the ICP said.
The project aims to offer health cover in emergency cases. It will automate the process of getting health insurance through an electronic platform that will “manage the pricing and issuance” of packages from all major insurance companies in the UAE.
Major General Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, director-general of the Authority, said in a media statement that the transformational project is in line with ‘We Are the Emirates 2031’ vision, by contributing to efforts to build “the most active and competitive economy in the world”.
He said the new initiative benefits tourists as they would get more competitive prices. “Once the automated health insurance procedure has been implemented, this would allow visitors to choose among insurance providers that give competitive coverage alternatives. This would ensure that their various demands as travellers will be satisfied."
