Rwanda agriculture board launches subsidised greenhouse insurance scheme

| 20 May 2026

The Rwanda Agriculture and Animal Resources Development Board (RAB) has launched a subsidised insurance scheme for greenhouse agriculture. It aims to protect farmers against climate-related catastrophes and attract investments.

A  report by New Times said the insurance product covers greenhouse structures, crops, irrigation equipment, and produce during transportation, with the government subsidising 40% of premiums. The remaining 60% of premiums will be shouldered by farmers.

Officials added that those interested in the scheme are urged to adhere to modern farming guidelines. These include building greenhouses in suitable locations protected from strong winds and using approved seeds and fertilisers. Failure to comply with these standards may be regarded as negligence and could affect compensation claims.
