Africa:SUNU Group develops phydigital outlets to distribute life and non-life plans

| 13 Aug 2024

SUNU Group, a leading pan-African insurance and financial services group, has managed to have a Property and Casualty (P&C) company in 17 countries on the continent, says Mr Mohamed Bah, managing director of the group.

In an interview with Financial Afrik, he says that the group has more P&C insurance companies than life insurance companies, with the latter numbering nine.

Mr Bah says that the Group has a digital application called “MySUNU Assurances” that allows customers to subscribe directly to motor and home insurance products, but also to finance their children's studies through life insurance solutions.

Commenting on developments in operations, including the establishment of SUNU Stores, he said, “Our vision is that the customer no longer has to worry about the difference between Life and P&C activities, with the creation of our SUNU Stores. These will be points of sale, ideally phydigital, that is to say, physical but with digital terminals in which the customer can have all-in-one services, with digital assistance or with a person.”

The Group is also offering digital automobile insurance in Côte d'Ivoire, and is working for this to be replicated in the countries where SUNU operates. Another digitalisation project is the online automobile report, which will allow considerable productivity gains and saves time in lodging claims in the event of a simple accident.

SUNU Group, which also has banking operations, wants to offer packaged financial services (insurance, banking, health) online. The first digital products are already available in most of the countries in which the Group operates, in addition to an integrated customer relations centre.

Mr Bah added, “Finally, we all know that in Africa, growth and employment are mainly driven by SMEs/SMIs, and most governments make the development of this sector a priority. We intend to contribute significantly to supporting this riskier segment through our banking and insurance solutions.”
