The number of speeding violations by motorists has fallen by two-thirds over the four years to 2025, according to data from the General Directorate of Traffic. For every three speeding violations recorded in 2021, only one was recorded in 2025.

Observers have shared their views on the reasons for the decline in the number of speeding violations, reported the newspaper Alayam. One suggests that this decrease reflects the impact of the expanded use of modern technologies and smart monitoring systems, which have contributed to encouraging drivers to comply with speed limits, in addition to their role in changing traffic behaviour.
The second reason is the traffic law. In 2025, amendments were made to a number of provisions of the traffic law and the tightening of penalties related to serious violations.
Gulf Union Insurance and Reinsurance Company’s CEO, Mr Waleed Mahmood, CEO of Gulf Union Insurance and Reinsurance Company, said that the true picture of the decrease in traffic violations becomes apparent when it is accompanied by a decline in the number and severity of accidents, injuries, damages, and insurance claims.
