Mr Kevin Rethual has been appointed CEO of Munich Re Retakaful, effective 1 June 2026. He will be based in Malaysia and report to Owais Ansari, Head of Regional Market Reinsurance MEA Munich Re.
Mr Rethual joined Munich Re Retakaful in Kuala Lumpur in 2021 as Head of Pricing and was promoted to Chief Commercial Officer in 2024. Prior to this, he worked for more than a decade for a Malaysian primary life insurance company in various positions.
He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and studied Actuarial Science at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia.
Mr Rethual succeeds Ms Serena Thio, who played a pivotal role in shaping Munich Re Retakaful from strengthening its technical credibility, expanding its market position, to building a strong, values-driven team.
Ms Thio will transition into a senior advisory role from 1 June until 31 December 2026, before retiring from Munich Re at the end of 2026.
