Approximately 20% of registered vehicles in Turkiye lack mandatory third-party liability insurance (called traffic insurance), according to Quick Sigorta General Manager Eyup Ozsoy.
Assessing regarding traffic and comprehensive motor insurance in Turkiye, Mr Ozsoy said that the number of vehicles registered in Turkiye in 2025 was 33m for which motor insurance policies were issued, but 20% of the policies were subsequently cancelled. This indicated that the number of active traffic insurance policies remained at around 26-27m, according to local media reports.
He stated that 9.7m vehicles had comprehensive insurance policies in 2025, with around 6m of these being cars and light commercial vehicles.
He noted that there was an increase of around 40% in traffic insurance premiums last year to TRY261bn ($6.01bn). Comprehensive motor insurance premiums rose by 30% to TRY148bn. He said, “ The growth rate in comprehensive insurance was slightly lower because there was more competition there.”
