The Saudi Council of Health Insurance has issued a decision requiring all government healthcare facilities to contract with health insurance companies, with effect from 1 July 2025.
This move by the council aims to expand the scope of medical insurance to all healthcare facilities, both private and government, to improve the level of services provided to beneficiaries, according to local media reports.
The council also affirmed that it would exercise its oversight powers to verify government healthcare facilities' compliance with the new regulation.
The Health Insurance Council is an independent governmental body that supervises the cooperative health insurance system.
