Bahrain: Lawmakers push for compulsory health insurance for visitors

Source: Middle East Insurance Review | Jan 2025

Tourists visiting Bahrain will need to buy health insurance as part of their visa application process, with an additional fee to cover emergency and accident-related care.

The premiums will be included in the visa fee charged to tourists.

This new policy has received approval from the parliament’s services committee, reported News of Bahrain.

Instead of a flat premium rate, the health insurance premium will vary based on the specific health coverage required, ensuring that visitors pay a fair amount for their insurance during their stay.

According to local law, tourists are required to pay their health insurance fees during their visit and tourist visas cannot be issued or renewed without proof of payment. Steps to ensure smooth implementation of the scheme are underway. M
