Bahrain: Medical liability insurance law set to be amended

Doctors in Bahrain could soon be required to buy medical liability insurance to protect against claims for medical errors, under a proposed law that seeks to consolidate liability regulations into a single framework.
The proposed revision, submitted by Shura Council members, aims to provide clearer protection for healthcare providers and patients. The Shura Council is the upper house of the country’s national assembly.
Currently, liability rules are scattered across several old laws, some dating back decades, reported News of Bahrain.
A central feature of the draft is mandatory liability insurance for healthcare providers, designed to shield them from financial risks while safeguarding patient rights.
The draft also includes plans to establish a supreme committee for medical liability. This body, made up of experts and representatives in the medical field, will handle disputes, ensure accountability and provide a structured process for claims. M
