Algeria: Takaful business surges from a modest base

Takaful contributions in the first quarter of the year reached DZD234m ($1.8m), around 0.4% of the market GWP, compared with DZD113.6m in 1Q2024, registering a jump of 106.3%.

General takaful contributions amounted to DZD129m (around 55% of gross contributions) compared to DZD72.6m in 1Q2024, a 78% increase. Family takaful contributions grew at a faster pace of 157% as they reached DZD105m compared with DZD41m.

General takaful paid claims reached DZD18m in the first quarter of the year against DZD16m in 1Q2024, a rise of around 14%. For the same quarter, family takaful paid claims reached DZD1.2m versus DZD755,000, an increase of 53%. M
