The Insurance Committee of the Qatar Chamber views the issue of the pricing of mandatory health insurance as a priority.
During the committee’s first meeting of the year, held on 24 March, members discussed its participation in the pricing of the compulsory health insurance scheme, according to local media reports. Qatar’s mandatory health insurance system applies to all non-Qatari nationals living in and visitors to Qatar. The relevant law took effect on 4 May 2022.
The panel also discussed the pricing mechanism for takaful business. On the agenda too were plans to reassess how accidents that are reported to motor insurers are managed to enhance efficiency and customer satisfaction.
The committee agreed that topics discussed during the meeting would be referred to specialised technical teams, which would make recommendations.
The meeting’s agenda included a discussion on enhancing cooperation among local insurance companies to sharpen their competitiveness. Views were also aired on competition between Qatar Financial Centre-licensed companies and national insurers operating in the Qatari market.
The meeting was presided over by Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al Thani, chairman of the Chamber's board of directors and head of the Insurance Committee, and attended by committee vice chairman Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Maliki Al-Jehani and representatives of insurance companies.
