Central Bank of Kuwait helms the IFSB Chairmanship in 2018
Dr Mohammad Y Al-Hashel, Governor of the Central Bank of Kuwait (CBK), has been appointed as the Chairman of the Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB). Mr Fazle Kabir, Governor of Bangladesh Bank, will be Deputy Chairman. Both appointments took effect on 1 January 2018.
 
   Dr Al-Hashel took over the chairmanship of the IFSB from Dr Valiollah Seif, Governor of Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Dr Al-Hashel has been the Governor and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the CBK since 2012. He is the Alternate Governor of the State of Kuwait at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Arab Monetary Fund (AMF). He is also a member of the Financial Stability Board Regional Consultative Group for MENA, a Governing Board member and the Chairperson of the Board Executive Committee of the International Islamic Liquidity Management Corporation (IILM), and member of the Board of Directors of the Gulf Monetary Council.
 
   Mr Kabir is the former Senior Secretary to the Government of Bangladesh, and joined as the 11th Governor of Bangladesh Bank in March 2016. During his 34 years in the Bangladesh Civil Service, he held key positions in different ministries. He also served as a Director in the Board of Directors of state-owned commercial bank, Janata Bank Limited between 2008 and 2010, and Bangladesh Bank from 2012 to 2014. Prior to joining Bangladesh Bank as Governor, he held the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors of the largest commercial bank of Bangladesh, Sonali Bank Limited.

 
EMEA: New appointments at SCOR Global Life
SCOR Global Life has promoted Mr Miguel Alferieff to CEO of the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region, reporting to Mr Simon Pearson, Head of Global Markets, SCOR Global Life. 
 
   At the same time, Mr Roy Chappell has been promoted to Deputy CEO of EMEA, while Ms Pilar Santamaria has been promoted to Head of Central, Eastern, Southern Europe and Middle East. Both report to Mr Alferieff.
 
   Based in Madrid, Mr Alferieff is responsible for all Life & Health Reinsurance Solutions in the EMEA region. He started his career at SCOR Global Life in 1992 and has held various market and business responsibilities in Madrid and Paris. From 2007 to 2011, he led the life reinsurance activities in Spain and Portugal, became Head of Southern Europe and Middle East in 2011 and Head of Central, Southern, Eastern Europe and Middle East, as well as Deputy CEO of EMEA in 2014.
 
   Based in London, Mr Chappell maintains his current portfolio as CEO for the SCOR Global Life UK Branch and also as Head of Northern Europe and South Africa. He started his career at Colonial Mutual as a Life Product and Marketing Manager. He joined SCOR in 2000 as Business Development Manager for the UK and Irish markets and became CEO of the SCOR Global Life UK branch in 2010, before becoming Head of Northern Europe and South Africa in 2014.
 
   Based in Madrid, Ms Santamaria will be responsible for the Life & Health Reinsurance Solutions in the Central, Eastern, Southern Europe and Middle East region. She started her career as pricing actuary in Gerling in 2000 and later as Marketing Actuary in the Spanish branch of Revios, which was acquired by SCOR in 2006. She became Technical and Marketing Manager for the Spanish and Portuguese markets. In 2012, she was promoted to Head of Iberia, responsible for all Life & Health Reinsurance Solutions in the Spanish and Portuguese markets. She is a fully qualified member of the Spanish Institute of Actuaries.
 
   There have been no changes with respect to the people directly in charge for the Middle East life and health business, with Mr Jens Sonnenschein remaining as Head of Middle East for the Life & Health division of SCOR.

 
AIG names Head of MENA 
Mr Sami Sayegh has been named Head of AIG MENA, including Russia, and General Manager, AIG UAE, effective 1 December 2017.
 
   In this role, Mr Sayegh will provide the strategic direction and leadership of our strong multi-lingual teams in MENA and the UAE, and will partner with product leaders across AIG to ensure profitable growth across the region. 
 
   Mr Sayegh, who joined AIG in October 2012, led the deployment of Property Large Limits in EMEA and his recent responsibilities included managing Property & Special Risks in the Middle East, Russia and throughout Africa. Prior to joining AIG, he managed facultative reinsurance operations at Saudi Re and Paris Re, led the loss control division at Chubb Insurance of Canada, and held various other senior and managerial positions at Aon and FM Global. 

 
UK: Arch Group appoints Vice President Life & Health
Arch Reinsurance Europe Underwriting has appointed Mr Amine Braikia as the Vice President for Life & Health in its London branch effective from November 2017. Among his duties include overlooking the company’s activities in the Middle East region and the African continent. 
 
   Mr Braikia was formerly with Saudi Re where he served as Director – Life & Medical for over five years handling the company’s life and medical reinsurance portfolio. 
 
   Prior to this, he worked with Best Re (Salama Group) as a Senior Underwriter for Life and Medical Reinsurance.
 
   He started his insurance career in Tunisia in 1998 with Groupe des Assurances de Tunisie (GAT) where he served in various positions, lastly as Assistant Manager for life operations.
