Source: Middle East Insurance Review | Jan 2016

The Arab Insurance Institute (AII), an initiative by the General Arab Insurance Federation (GAIF), held a two-day training course in December covering a comprehensive range of topics and principles in the reinsurance field.

Mr Khaled Abu Nahel, CEO of AII and course trainer, said the course was aimed at improving the professional and technical capabilities of reinsurance personnel in the Egyptian market, in areas such as arranging treaties and agreements with international reinsurers.

He noted that the course is essential for young reinsurance personnel in Egypt to expand their knowledge base, and prepare them for future leadership roles. The course explained the procedures for calculating reinsurance, premiums and claims reserves for proportional and non-proportional treaties, and the practical aspects of managing reinsurance treaties.

Mr Abdul Khaliq R Khalil, Secretary General of GAIF, said reinsurance is growing in importance and is an indicator of success of regional companies’ transactions with the international community.

Mr Abd El-Raouf Kotb, Chairman of the Insurance Federation of Egypt (IFE), commended the cooperation between IFE and GAIF in various aspects, including training. He noted that preparing seasoned reinsurance professionals in the Arab world would eventually help the industry increase its retention levels and thereby raise its contribution to the economies of the region.

The course attracted over 60 professionals from the Egyptian insurance market.
