Tunisia: Direct insurers' net premiums increased by nearly 10% in 1H2024

Direct insurance companies in Tunisia recorded a strong showing in turnover for the first half of 2024, according to figures published by the General Insurance Committee.
Direct insurers in Tunisia posted net premiums of TND2,030m ($668m) in 1H2024, 9.8% higher than the TND1,848m posted for 1H2023. Non-life insurance accounted for 75% of the total.
In addition, motor insurance generated a turnover of TND818.6m in the first six months of this year, rising by 7.9% y-o-y. Group health insurance recorded a 9.8% increase in turnover to TND310.3m while fire insurance turnover rose by 3.1% to TND165.1m.
Compensation paid by direct insurance companies reached TND900.7m in 1H2024, 3.8% higher than the TND867.9m settled in 1H2023. Non-life insurance accounted for TND716.9m or 80% of this total.
The inflation rate in Tunisia in the first six months of this year hovered at around 7%. M
