Morocco: Insurers use digital technology to crack down on fraud

Fraud in the motor insurance branch is estimated to cost insurers 4% to 5% of overall turnover in Morocco’s insurance sector.
Fraudulent acts include intentional omission of information, falsification of documents, forgery, as well as false declarations when a claim is filed.
To combat fraud, which occurs in other branches of insurance, as well such as medical, the majority of insurers have turned to a centralised platform established by the Moroccan Federation of Insurance, said local media reports.
The platform allows insurers to access the history of all the operations and claims lodged by a claimant. It traces claims, cross-checks information and analyses the data with technology including artificial intelligence. The insurers also access images of damaged property by online means. M
