Egypt governor to steer IFSB Chairmanship in 2016
The Council of the Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB) has appointed Mr Tarek Amer, Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) as Chairman and Dr Valiollah Seif, Governor, Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran as Deputy Chairman for the year 2016. The appointments took effect on 1 January 2016.
Mr Amer assumed the Chairmanship of the IFSB from HE Agus DW Martowardojo, Governor of Bank Indonesia. Mr Amer was promoted from Deputy Governor to Governor of the CBE in November 2015. His 27 years of banking experience covers a wide array of regions, including the MENA, Turkey, the Gulf and Asia.
In Egypt, Mr Amer has held senior executive positions, leading the corporate finance and investment banking businesses for Citibank and Bank of America for MENA and the Gulf regions. He previously served as Chairman of the Board of National Bank of Egypt, Deputy Chairman of Arab International Bank and was the Director of the National Bank of Egypt (UK). He was also the Deputy Chairman of the Egyptian Banking Institute.
Dr Seif was appointed as the Governor of the Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran in 2013. He also serves as Managing Director of Karafarin Bank in Iran. Dr Seif has over 30 years of banking experience and served as Finance Director of Bank Sepah, Managing Director of Bank Mellat, Bank Saderat, Bank Sepah and Bank Melli Iran. He has also been Chairman of the Board of Future Bank BSC since 2012.
AIG appoints new executive team
American International Group (AIG) has formed a new executive leadership team to execute AIG’s strategic priorities.
Under the new management structure, Ms Seraina Maag, formerly the CEO of the EMEA region, has become the new CEO of Regional Management & Operations. The Regional CEO & President roles in Americas, EMEA, and Asia Pacific will be consolidated into one role with oversight of country management.
She will report to Mr Peter Hancock, AIG President and CEO.
ACE boosts MENA underwriting team with three appointments
ACE Group has announced three appointments to its underwriting team in MENA.
Ms Warda Saeed Habib has been appointed to the role of Regional Underwriting Manager, Property for ACE in MENA. In her new role, Ms Habib will be responsible for managing the underwriting performance of ACE’s property insurance portfolio in the region, and for driving its future profitable development.
Ms Habib has 12 years of insurance industry experience, having held a series of property underwriting roles. She joins ACE from Hannover Re, where she held the position of Facultative Reinsurance Manager in Bahrain. In her new role, she will report to Ms Mojgan Khoshabi, Regional Managing Director for ACE in MENA.
Ms Ayat Sobeh, previously Property Underwriter for ACE in MENA, has been promoted to the role of Senior Property Underwriter for the region. In her new role, Ms Sobeh will contribute to the profitable growth of ACE’s property insurance portfolio in the region. She joined ACE in 2007, when the company opened its MENA operation, as Underwriting Assistant, Property. Ms Sobeh will report to Ms Habib.
Ms Batool Ali, previously Underwriting Assistant, Casualty for ACE in MENA, has been promoted to the role of Assistant Energy Underwriter. In her new role, Ms Ali will contribute to further building ACE’s energy portfolio across the region. She will report to Mr Hassan Yousif, Senior Underwriter Oil and Energy, for ACE in MENA.
All three appointments are effective immediately and will be based in Bahrain.
Aetna International appoints MEA sales lead
Aetna International has appointed Mr Marco Bannerman as Executive Director, Distribution for the Middle East and Africa (MEA).
Previously the sales lead for Aetna International’s Europe region, Mr Bannerman will head up the sales function within MEA, looking after major broker and group accounts. Prior to joining Aetna International he held senior positions at BUPA and Priory Group.
Saudi Arabia: SABB Takaful appoints Board Member
SABB Takaful, a member of the HSBC Group, has appointed Mr Anthony Bentley as a Non-Executive Member to the Board of Directors and Representative of HSBC with effect from 13 December, replacing Mr Harble Karlket.
Mr Bentley is an International Chief Risk Officer at HSBC and a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries.
