The Malaysian Takaful Association (MTA) and the Asian Institute of Finance (AIF) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly promote and advocate the National Occupational Skills Standard (NOSS) initiative as a platform for skills training in the insurance and takaful industry.
The NOSS forms part of the broader Skills Malaysia agenda announced under the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) in 2011, whereby the government wants 50% of highly skilled workers to be developed by 2020.
Mr Hashim Harun, Board Member of AIF said: “This close collaboration will help both AIF and MTA to ensure that the NOSS will be driven by industry needs. Through this partnership, AIF and MTA will continue to support the NOSS initiative in fulfilling the national mandate, and seek to enhance the accessibility, quality and effectiveness of skills training in the insurance and takaful industry.”
With the aim of helping to raise the standards and professionalism of skilled talent in the insurance and takaful industry, the MoU commits the two organisations to using resources and recommending suitable subject matter experts that meet the qualifying criteria for NOSS development and ensure the quality of the NOSS developed. MTA and AIF will also jointly host promotional initiatives to educate and create awareness on the benefits and importance of NOSS, as well as encouraging stakeholders to adopt NOSS.
